Polycletus

Policleto (Πολύκλειτος), bronze-smith belonging to the school of Argos, went along with Phidias one of the leading figures of the classical style of Greek sculpture. We have not received any of his original works, although Roman copies literary sources identified as such. His aesthetic theory based on the canon that it creates. For him a harmonious human body must have a measure of seven heads. Also contraposto used to give their figures in a balanced position (which is the opposition of the different parts of the body in a manner consistent with the purpose of breaking the frontal of the figure). His work reflects the influence of Hippocrates and isonomy. The mathematical calculation is very much also by the system of interrelated proportions of different parts of the body and weight distribution. These relationships between different "tranches" body endow the work of a balance symmetry, a pace never before achieved. Phidias was with the first to have a school of followers that lasted as attested Roman writings.

His works include the Doryphoros (spear carrier), a copy can be admired at the National Museum of Naples, held between 450 and 440 BC This sculpture shows a young man in his fullness anatomy. Straight right leg supports the weight of the body while moving forward on the left denotes the body weight distribution in the figure in the hip supports right leg pressure and body weight. In the upper extremities the relationship between the members is on the contrary, while the right arm relaxed attitude while the left is bent to hold the spear. This is a clear example of the impact of the calculation in the figure and the use of contraposto.

His other great works that we know are Diadumenos representing a young man who sticks his head in a tape emerged victorious after a competition, and the result of a wound Amazon competition held in the city of Ephesus c. 450 BC with the participation in competition with the sculptor Phidias, cresyl Fradmón. It is believed he was the winner.
